The Rokatan has been great fun, a few parts were broken on arrival but this has been rectified. Its a very easy car to roll. More fun and more controllable on 2s. It's pretty badass.
by beard_l8ea6My son really wanted us to get this car due to the ratted muscle car look. I wasn't sure at first, but having bought it, it really seems like a fantastic buy. It looks far better in reality than on screen somehow and really is impressively large. The body shell is really big, although the wheelbase is more modest, giving a more car-like overhang, supported by big bumpers. It is a very different drive to the more familiar monster trucks and buggies and thus adds variety to our RC experience. The weathered-look body is really different and we love it. It has very scale handing and feels like a real yank-tank to drive, with compliant springs and plenty of body roll. It does around 35-40mph on 3s, which is plenty and the motor/gearing is very torquey, rather than going for out and out speed. It whizzes over the terrain and bumps quite effortlessly and is a blast when cornering, where the tyres hang on and the body leans. It probably isn't for skate parks and big jumps, as there are more suitable designs around, with less body overhang each end to get damaged. This drives like a car and is huge fun just travelling over the ground and sliding about. It feels sturdy everywhere, although we don't really bash our RCs. A look online shows parts are refreshingly cheap. After the first run, we did notice motor temps getting high on cut grass, so we ordered a Fastrax cooling fan, which wires into the receiver just fine, with no extension. The servo seems a bit slow and weak, but we turned the steering rate down a bit anyway for better stability. The radio runs out of range a bit under 100 meters, but is a decent enough unit, with useful adjustments and no discernible lag. I think this is an excellent value RC, especially as you get a good Voltz 3s battery, charge bag and useful Etronix balance charger included.
